Description
Living among loons for a lifetime gives me a unique sense of this strange bird, it's mannerisms, and it's sounds. Everyone has heard a loon call (in the background of movies and in lands where no loons live in those movies) , but has everyone heard the sound of a loon taking off of the water and going airborne? It's quite a production and particularly breathtaking at times when the water is like glass and the bird runs with it's feet and beats the water with its wingtips in short fast strokes when it is close to blast-off. Leaving the water is no small feat and over time, loons do it almost effortlessly.
