Description
"May your house always be too small to hold all your friends." ~ Irish Toast
The clochans, or shepherd's huts in Ireland inspired this mixed media illustration. Most clochans are made entirely of stone, even the roofs, but some have thatched roofs. They provided shelter for the shepherds when out tending the sheep in remote, hilly areas. They were also sometimes used for making cheese. I find them magical, similar to little Hobbit Houses and felt like creating this one in watercolor, pen and ink, and gauche. It is signed digitally. A previous version was a cropped square version with some digital enhancements for a softer less color saturated appearance. This version is a more rectangular shaped version as is the original illustration.

What fascinating structures! You are right--they definitely have a hobbit-like feel to them. This image has so much going on--I notice something else each time I look at it. Wonderful! l/f
