Description
Catkins, commonly known as pussy willow, are one of the first harbingers of spring. They are buds or flowers appearing on the branches of willow trees, soft and fuzzy, and make nice arrangements brought in as branches and put into vases or crocks and dried. When they first appear the bees are excited and hover about. Catkins are subtle but beautiful in their own way. I associate them with happy adventures out walking in the spring during childhood. We had a small stream flowing past my dad's orchard bee hives and I loved to sit under the trees and watch the bees on warm spring days. I realize now how lucky I was to be surrounded by nature and with the time and lack of distractions to be aware of it and enjoy those peaceful moments.
This is a saturated variation of my previously posted drawing done in pen and ink with digital color added.

This wonderful drawing caught my fancy so fast that I am commenting on the very first thing I saw in your gallery today. The colors, composition and that superb blend of colors in the background are completely captivating. We had a pussy willow tree in our back yard when I was growing up which makes this all the more special for me.
